Heron House, a leading provider of exceptional care for elderly people, is pleased to announce that it has officially adopted its new name. The care home in Heron Drive formerly known as ‘Abbeyfield’ launched its new name by asking the Mayor Vanessa Garside to unveil a 6-foot-tall wicker Heron which will take pride of place on the front lawn.

Gary Davies Chair of the Trustees said ‘ The name change reflects the fact we are an independent home and wanted to more align with our local community, we have been affiliated with Abbeyfield for over 35 years but the time is right to develop our own identity. The fact we achieved outstanding in our recent inspection, putting us in the top 3% of homes nationally reflects the quality of care we deliver as not for profit organisation.’

The manager of the home, Paula Howlett said ‘Whilst our name is changing, our core values and commitment to exceptional personal care remains the same, in fact it creates the opportunity to enhance our offer. The fact we are nearly always full is tribute to the way in which our home meets people’s needs, we have exciting plans for the future which includes building a deeper relationship with people in our nearby community.
